How to Find Your Owner's Manual by VIN
Step-by-step: decode your 17-character VIN to get the exact make, model and model year, then locate the correct official owner's manual.
Where to find your VIN
The Vehicle Identification Number is a 17-character code. You will find it on the driver-side dashboard where it meets the windshield, on the driver door jamb sticker, and on your registration and insurance documents.
What the VIN tells you
Characters 1–3 identify the manufacturer, characters 4–8 describe the model and body, and character 10 encodes the model year (for example, J = 2018, K = 2019, L = 2020, M = 2021, N = 2022, P = 2023, R = 2024, S = 2025).
The free NHTSA VIN decoder (vpic.nhtsa.dot.gov) will return the make, model, model year and trim for any vehicle sold in the US.
Use the VIN on the manufacturer's portal
Many official owner portals — including Toyota, Ford, GM brands and Mopar (Jeep, Ram, Dodge, Chrysler) — let you enter your VIN to pull up the exact manual and supplements for your vehicle's build.
On VehicleManual.com, pick your year, make and model and we'll send you straight to the right official source.
Frequently asked questions
Is it safe to enter my VIN online?+
A VIN identifies the vehicle, not you. It's printed on your windshield and is generally safe to use on official manufacturer sites.
Why does the model year matter so much?+
Features, fluid specs, fuse layouts and maintenance intervals can change from one model year to the next, even within the same generation.
